In-Person PD: Building and Sustaining Community and Restorative Justice

March 8, 2023at8:30 am - 11:30 am

Location: In-Person, OSSE, Eleanor Holmes Norton Room 108

Description: Target Audience: Administrators, School Staff, Behavior Support Staff

Instead of working “to” or “for” students and families, restorative practices focus on working “with” the community. Join this session to explore the building blocks of restorative practices and how to implement them to improve school culture and climate. Participants will learn practical strategies that engage and re-energize the learning community and how to integrate restorative practices with complementary approaches, such as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, social-emotional learning, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. Participants will learn how to assess areas of strength and areas for growth in school culture and how to create and adapt action plans to support each other, students, and families throughout the year.

This in-person session will be held at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) located at 1050 First Street NE, Washington, DC 20002. Parking is available near the office. Metro stops near OSSE on the Red Line are Union Station and NoMa / Gallaudet University.

DC Public School and DC Public Charter School staff are asked to register for this course through OSSE’s new learning management system (LMS) platform. Educators can follow the instructions here to activate their account. Staff will only be able to receive PLU’s by registering through the system.
