Community of Practice: Creating a Positive Staff Culture
January 18at9:30 am - 11:00 am
IN-PERSON SESSION
Location: Sojourner Truth Montessori School | 1800 Perry St. NE, Washington, DC 20018
Are you concerned about staff wellbeing? We are too! We want to provide a restorative space for educators and school partners to discuss staff communication and well-being and problem-solve with peers from across the city about the challenges and successes of developing staff connections.
Guiding Questions
- How are expectations communicated to staff?
- How do staff feel about their work in their school communities?
- What have you observed about the socialization skills of staff?
- What have you noticed about how staff are feeling and behaving?
- What have you been able to do to build community and relationships among staff?
- What is the patience level of your staff right now? Do staff members tolerate minor infractions, or are they being triggered to anger and frustration?
Adults are constantly adjusting to the pace of the school day– managing transitions, the physical stamina of being in the classroom, the social and emotional effects of working with students who experienced trauma, violence and heightened anxiety, and the ability to handle conflicts in a restorative manner.
During this Community of Practice, participants will have time to explore staff well-being in our schools and share promising practices for addressing these needs in our communities.
