Community of Practice: Exploring the Intersection of Restorative Practices & Disability Awareness

March 14at9:30 am - 11:00 am

VIRTUAL SESSION

Location: ZOOM

Successful restorative schools prioritize identifying and accommodating the needs of all students. Although the focus for students with disabilities tends to be on academic accommodations, restorative practices have a role in supporting peer to peer and student to teacher interactions. During this session, participants will brainstorm social emotional learning circle flows, lesson plans, practices, and/or strategies that can increase disability awareness within their classrooms and schools. Participants will also share stories to create a resource bank of Restorative practices that increase inclusion in their classrooms and schools.

Guiding Questions

  • How can restorative practices support peer to peer interactions for students with disabilities?
  • How do healthy relationships and interactions support positive behavior?
  • How can restorative practices be used to help promote understanding of the needs and experiences of students with disabilities?
