Description: Target Audience: School Staff, Classroom Support Staff, Teachers
This three day in-person professional development workshop will review restorative justice as a philosophy and its various approaches to building community using proactive strategies to prevent harm and responsive strategies to address harm. Practices that keep students in the classroom, practicing new and old skills using hands-on methods, reviewing restorative communication processes, and development of ecosystem support will be discussed during this workshop. Participants will be given the opportunity to identify those supports and begin to develop restorative responses for the school community.
All professional development sessions use a trauma-informed approach and teach skills and practices that you can implement immediately.
This in-person session will be held at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) located at 1050 First Street NE, Washington, DC 20002. Parking is available near the office. Metro stops near OSSE on the Red Line are Union Station and NoMa / Gallaudet University.
DC Public School and DC Public Charter School staff are asked to register for this course through OSSE’s new learning management system (LMS) platform. Educators can follow the instructions here to activate their account. Staff will only be able to receive 2 PLU’s by registering through the system.
