Description: Target Audience: School Staff, Teachers
When students experience prolonged absences for a variety of reasons, including a death in the family, sickness, disciplinary actions, medical appointments, homelessness and other issues, using restorative practices to re-integrate returning students is critical to their academic success and social-emotional wellbeing. This session is an introduction to restorative strategies that help ease the process of returning to school, including creating support plans for welcoming returning students into the school culture after being away for a while. Teachers, behavior and restorative justice staff, social workers, instructional coaches and deans and other school staff will work to identify intentional ways of creating the sense of belonging and identify supports and strategies that will allow returning students and their families to thrive.
DC Public School and DC Public Charter School who are interested in receiving 2 PLU’s for full participation in this course are asked to register for this course through OSSE’s new learning management system (LMS) platform. Educators can follow the instructions here to activate their account. Staff will only be able to receive two PLU’s by registering through the system. If you have issues or questions regarding the OSSE LMS registration, please contact Jessica Dulay via email at [email protected].
