Creating restorative spaces, mindset and culture enable students, staff and families to feel safe, included, and engaged in the classroom. In this session we will explore what makes a classroom environment restorative and what to consider when designing your area to support youth engagement, safe brain-based learning spaces, healthy community building practices and Social Emotional Learning. In this session, teachers, behavior and restorative justice staff, social workers, instructional coaches and deans will have an opportunity to explore resources and design your own restorative classroom and/or school spaces.
All professional development sessions use a trauma-informed approach and teach skills and practices that you can implement immediately.
This in-person session will be held at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) located at 1050 First Street NE, Washington, DC 20002. Parking is available near the office. Metro stops near OSSE on the Red Line are Union Station and NoMa / Gallaudet University.
DC Public School and DC Public Charter School staff are asked to register for this course through OSSE’s new learning management system (LMS) platform. Educators can follow the instructions here to activate their account. Staff will only be able to receive 2 PLU’s by registering through the system.
